First League Game Ends In Defeat

PORTCHESTER 'B' 6-1 CHANDLERS FORD
16.09.06 – MID SOLENT B LEAGUE

In our first game back in the B League since our promotion to the A League two years ago, Portchester showed Chandlers Ford that it could be a tough season ahead and that no game will be easy.

CFY began the game well enough with David Harris threatening down the right wing and Thorsten Tramischus holding the ball up well. An early corner caused Portchester a bit of trouble with Jozef Montigue coming close.

However despite this early pressure, the visitors were caught out by the pacy attack of Portchester. A quick break down the right saw both Chandlers Ford full backs out of position and this was quickly exploited. A switch of play led to a cross being headed home by the number 9 for the opening goal.

Michael Wall had a go from distance moments after the goal and his effort flew jsut over the bar.

Today's game also saw the return to action of Michael Sawbridge who had been out for months with broken bones in his foot. He came on midway through the half and caused a few problems for the Portchester backline but CFY still couldn't find a way through.

HALF TIME – Portchester 1-0 CFY

After a well disciplined, fairly solid first half performance things went down hill immediately as the side began to lose their shape and confidence.

In the same way that Portchester scored their first goal, they again got the ball down the wing and and were able to have free shots at Karthik as another five goals went in. Each of these were the almost identical with the root of the problem being the full backs not sticking to their position therefore leaving the defence wide open and not a lot of protection for the keeper.

Towards the end of the game Chandlers Ford looked more lively and a Jozef Montigue free kick led to CFY pulling a goal back, but by this time it was too little too late. David Harris was brought down outside of the box and from the free kick Joe swung the ball in only for it to be cleared but only as far as Ryan Dennis who looped in a high ball which Harris got on the end of with a brave header.

This will probably be one of the toughest league games of the season, and with this first fixture out of the way we can now look to finding a win. Positives to come out of the game were man of the match Robbie Hurst who had yet another solid game, and of course the first half of play where we made Portchester look ordinary!

FULL TIME – Portchester 6-1 CFY
