Chandlers Ford Youth 3-1 Earls
Friendly – 21st August 2008
Lineup: Kane Kellaway, James Parsonage, Jozef Montigue, Jake Beattie ©, Tom Ashton, Miles Hodge, Kelvin Bagot, Michael Wall, David Kilcoyne, Alex Evens, Zak Pickett
Subs: David Smith, Josh Harrigan
As you will see from above, late arrivals Smith and Harrigan had to settle for places on the bench, with Hodge starting wide right and two keepers on the pitch!!
Kelvin Bagot started off at left back.
After ten minutes, Hodge made way for Harrigan who slotted in at right back with Parsonage moving to wide right of midfield and Smith replaced Bagot at left back.
Ashton was running the show from centre midfield supported by Wall and Montigue and Pickett were looking lively up front with some good runs.
The defence looked strong with captain Beattie marshalling it well.
The game was end to end with both sides having chances, but Kellaway was looking assured in goal.
However following a corner, and CFY not closing down, Earls took a 1-0 lead into half time although Pickett was unlucky to have a goal cancelled out for having been judged to have knocked the ball out of the goalkeeper's hands before slotting it away.
The second half saw Kellaway replaced in goal by Bagot and Parsonage making way for Hodge.
Other changes saw Wall move up front with Pickett slotting in alongside Ashton. The two David's also swapped positions with Smith moving to centre back and Kilcoyne to left back.
The changes and the half time team talk seemed to work with CFY now wanting it more. They were soon on level terms when Ashton slotted in following a fumble by the Earls keeper, the linesman was again flagging for an infringement on the keeper but this was correctly over-ruled.
Following good work from Ashton and Montigue, Wall fired home to put CFY 2-1 up and before the finish Tom Ashton had secured a 3-1 victory and his man of the match award with a stunning strike.
Pickett had a very good second half as did Hodge and especially Bagot in goal who kept CFY in it with three very good saves at close range.
All in all a good performance by CFY especially in the second half.
Man of the match – Tom Ashton
