Our third and final six a side tournament of the season saw Chandlers Ford Blue reach their third final in a row and their second win in a row. The Blues got off to a slow start in the group games and only just managed to qualify for the quarter finals via third place but they soon found their rhythm again and played some outstanding football to overcome College Youth for the second match running to become the winners of the Purbrook Tournament. The Reds also played well against very tough opposition and were unlucky not to qualify. Well done everyone.

Congratulations to the Blue team who had a terrific tournament, only losing one game all day, which just happened to be in the final.

They played some brilliant football and deservedly went all the way through to the final of the competition where they came up against a Havant and Waterlooville side who just edged their way to a 3-1 win despite Chandlers Ford playing the better football in the first half.

The Red Team had a much harder group and were unlucky not to score a goal or win a game but again at times they played nice football and created a number of chances.

19 March 2005

CFY 4-2 Stubbington

CHANDLERS FORD 4-2 STUBBINGTON

19.3.05 – FRIENDLY

On this bright, sunny morning this match began at a high tempo with the ‘A’ Division side Stubbington dictating the play. Early on the visitors were creating chances for the two front men who were full of pace and were causing problems for the Chandlers Ford back three of Hurst, Bromhead and Godfrey.

A lofted ball found it’s way through to the Stubbington number 9 who managed to break the offside trap and he ran on through before tapping the ball past the keeper Lee Robertson and tapping into an empty net. Stubbington raised into an early 1-0 lead with this finish and they were on top for the majority of the first half.

However CFY bounced back mid-way through the half when Jozef Montigue was pushed to the ground in the area by both the goalkeeper and fullback. The penalty was awarded and Matt Lucas stepped up to fire in his second penalty in two consecutive games.

Just before the half-time whistle Stubbington took the lead once more as the ball was scrambled over the line, Stubbington capitalised as CFY failed to clear the ball.

HALF TIME – CFY 1-2 Stubbington

Chandlers Ford came out into the second half playing more attacking football and despite being a goal down they were full of confidence and pushing for the equaliser at every opportunity.

The score was still 2-1 until about twelve minutes from the end when CFY’s sustained pressure finally paid off. Nathan Feltham got the equaliser when he rifled a left-foot shot goal wards and the power on the ball was just too much for the goalkeeper to keep out. 2-2.

Reece Middleton had a glorious chance for CFY to take the lead when he powered his way through the Stubbington defence and was left one on one with the keeper only to see his shot fantastically tipped wide for a corner kick.

Chandlers Ford just kept coming at the tired Stubbington defence, and Feltham’s goal gave the side the momentum needed to continue the fight-back. Captain Sabri Elmasri skilfully found a way past the Stubbington defenders before sidestepping the keeper and shooting his side into the lead for the first time in the game. 3-2.

Right before the end man of the match Matt Lucas wrapped the game up when he tapped the ball home from close range to grab his second goal of the game and to complete a magnificent fight back.

Lee Robertson made a great save with his foot towards the end of the game and his defence in front of him battled away to ensure the game was theirs. The team spirit was superb and everyone played their part in this win against an ‘A’ Division side. In particular Robbie Hurst had a great game at right back, John Ruis gave everything he had and made a number of brilliant tackles to protect the defence. Matt and Sabri controlled the midfield especially in the second half and Joe never stopped chasing and putting pressure on the Stubbington defenders.

FULL TIME – CFY 4-2 Stubbington

12 March 2005

Chandlers Ford 10-1 Waltham Wolves

CHANDLERS FORD 10-1 WALTHAM WOLVES

12.3.05 – FRIENDLY

Chandlers Ford having won promotion from the ‘B’ League last week came up against a side that are struggling at the foot of the A League table – Waltham Wolves in this friendly match that didn’t end up to be so friendly.

A near to full strength squad available for the home side with just a few players missing gave them the extra advantage against their opponents who only had a bare 10 players!

The first half was extremely one-sided as CFY dominated possession from start to finish and created a number of decent chances. Jozef Montigue came on mid way through the half and almost made an immediate impact as his cheeky flick from 12 yards came back off the cross bar.

Reece Middleton broke the deadlock late into the half with a good one-two with Liam Godfrey before firing the ball past the keeper. Jozef Montigue made it 2-0 when he sprinted past the Waltham defenders and neatly fired the ball into the bottom corner of the net out of the reach of the goalkeeper.

HALF TIME – CFY 2-0 Waltham Wolves

In the second half Waltham Wolves won a corner early on, and the from it the ball was scrambled over the line despite the efforts of the Chandlers Ford defenders on the goal line to make the scoreline a little tighter, 2-1.

These only encouraged the home side to start playing their football again and just like the first half Waltham Wolves were camped inside their own half for long periods of the game.

Reece Middleton had a great match and he continued his goalscoring form by completing a second half hat trick to give him a total of four goals for the game.
Jozef Montigue found the back of the net to grab his second of the game when Reece Middleton unselfishly played the ball across to Joe who had an easy finish to make the score 6-1.

Ronan Galloway let fly with a brilliant strike from outside the area, which rocketed into the top corner of the Waltham goal leaving the keeper with no chance. 7-1. Next a great move from the home side involving Middleton and Montigue in the build up set up Captain Sabri Elmasri who scored a great goal from a tight angle to increase the lead to 8-1.

The goals just kept coming for Chandlers Ford in this very eventful second half. Next up was Matt Lucas who slotted home a penalty after Montigue was shoved down in the box to grab the ninth goal for CFY. Following this goal Montigue and the Waltham Wolves defender who were both involved in the incident prior to the penalty again clashed which resulted in both players being removed from the pitch.

In the dieing minutes David Phillips popped up from defence as the home side continued to pile on the pressure right to the very end, and he poked the ball home from close range to grab his fourth goal of the season and to complete the rout.

FULL TIME – CFY 10-1 Waltham Wolves

05 March 2005

Bridgemary 1-3 Chandlers Ford

BRIDGEMARY 1-3 CHANDLERS FORD

5.3.05 – LEAGUE

In this closely contested match between two strong sides, CFY took the early advantage when Galloway broke down the left and crossed for Jozef Montigue who kept his composure in front of goal to put the visitors ahead.

The game was filled with end-to-end action but CFY held their lead until just before half time when they were hit on the break by a good move from Bridgemary which resulted in the equaliser to ensure both sides went into the break on level terms.

HALF TIME – Bridgemary 1-1 CFY

The second half saw both sides with chances to take the lead, but it was not until five minutes to go when a quick one two between Jozef Montigue and Ronan Galloway which saw Ronan slot the ball past the keeper for the visitors to take a well deserved lead.

In the dieing minutes the lead was increased to 3-1 when good work from Reece Middleton put Galloway in for his second and CFY's third.

This sealed a win for Chandlers Ford and more importantly sealed the second promotion spot to the A Division. Well done to all the boys on this great achievement.

FULL TIME – Bridgemary 1-3 CFY

26 February 2005

Westwood Youth 2-4 Chandlers Ford

WESTWOOD YOUTH 2-8 CHANDLERS FORD

26.2.05 – FRIENDLY

Chandlers Ford took the lead early on when Ronan Galloway ran onto Sabri Elmasri’s perfectly placed through ball and neatly tucked the ball away. Westwood bounced back almost immediately when they responded with a quick attacking move that resulted in the equalising goal.

Galloway doubled his tally in a goal almost identical to his first as he ran onto another good threaded pass from Elmasri and finished well to restore the visitors lead.

But CFY didn’t manage to hold onto this lead for very long because for the second time in the game Westwood Youth came back from a goal behind with another instant response to get the game back on level terms.

Ryan Chinn put Chandlers Ford into the driving seat once more as his sweet strike found the bottom corner of the net and fired CFY into a 3-2 lead. Ronan Galloway completed a first half hat trick just before half time and Lee Robertson made some great saves down at the other end to ensure Chandlers Ford held onto the lead.

HALF TIME – Westwood 2-4 CFY

It was the visitors that came out into the second half playing the better football as they seemed to play with a lot more confidence and dominated possession.

The Chandlers Ford midfield and attack were linking up brilliantly together as they strung together some beautiful attacking moves and continuously threatened the Westwood goalkeeper.

Reece Middleton scored the first goal in the second half with a good strike from inside the area to take the score to 5-2. Soon later it was 6 goals for Chandlers Ford and they were getting better and better, bossing all areas of the pitch. Jozef Montigue scored the sixth when he rounded the keeper and coolly slotted the ball home.

The visitors continued the pressure and were always looking to add to their goal tally. Middleton grabbed two more goals to secure his hat trick and to complete the rout.

FULL TIME – Westwood 2-8 CFY

19 February 2005

Chandlers Ford 2-9 Bridgemary

CHANDLERS FORD 2-9 BRIDGEMARY

19.2.05 – LEAGUE

Chandlers Ford were at the disadvantage of only having a bare eleven players to begin this league encounter against a full strength Bridgemary side. It was the visitors who were quickest out of the blocks and they found themselves 3 goals up within the first five minutes as Chandlers Ford’s defence barely had time to settle themselves into the match.

This was a heavy blow that Chandlers Ford had to struggle with but they never really recovered from conceding those early goals. However they didn’t give up, and they managed to string a few passes together and began to create chances for the front men.

Matt Lucas pulled a goal back with a good finish from a tight angle in the box, which saw the ball being nestled into the top left hand corner of the goal. It wasn’t too long before they were within one goal of Bridgemary. Jozef Montigue went on a dazzling run as he held off a number of tackles and kept his composure as he rounded the keeper and side footed the ball into an empty net.

Just before half time Bridgemary began to dominate once more as they piled on the pressure and forced two consecutive, brilliant saves out of Lee Robertson. From the resulting corner Bridgemary increased their lead with another good goal as the Chandlers Ford players failed to clear the ball.

HALF TIME – CFY 2-4 Bridgemary

Straightaway in the second half Chandlers Ford were on the attack as Sabri Elmasri ran through on goal and took the ball past the keeper but instead of shooting he spotted the run of Michael Wall and laid it off to him, giving the keeper a chance to get back on his goal line and recover from his mistake.

Having gone down to nine men there was only going to be one winner – Bridgemary. The visitors capitalised and took advantage of the extra players by making Chandlers Ford work really hard to get the ball.

Bridgemary front men Daniel Woodward and Nathan Hines helped fire in another five goals for the visitors without reply from Chandlers Ford Youth. But full credit must go to the home side for the way they never gave up and played right to the end. Despite conceding a hatful of goals they played some good football and caused problems for the Bridgemary defence and perhaps they may have scored a few more on another day but it wasn’t to be.

Chandlers Ford 7-3 Pirelli

CHANDLERS FORD 7-3 PIRELLI

12.2.05 – FRIENDLY

A slightly weakened Chandlers Ford side were selected for this friendly match as they only had eleven players from their actual squad available for selection. This gave the opportunity for Trialist Michael Sawbridge to come in and have a run out for the team, along with Shaun who came down from Wales to help make up the numbers.

Chandlers Ford started with an unusual partnership up front with David Phillips and Jozef Montigue leading the attack but these two players combined brilliantly early on when they played a nice one two on the edge of the area which was turned in by Jozef Montigue to take an early lead.

Not long after, CFY were awarded a penalty when David Phillips made a brilliant turn past a defender before being brought down in the box. Ryan Chinn stepped up and stroked the ball home with a cool side foot finish from 12 yards.

Montigue doubled his tally for the match when he beat a player and spotted the Pirelli keeper 6 yards off his line before firing in a delightful chip from a good distance.

Pirelli pulled a goal back before half time, from a free kick on the left hand side. The ball was whipped in from about 35 yards out and it appeared to deceive all the players bunched together in the box and made it’s way past keeper Lee Robertson as it trickled over the line to bring the visitors back into the match.

HALF TIME – CFY 3-1 Pirelli

CFY made a couple of changes at the interval, which saw Michael Sawbridge replace Robertson in goal after a brilliant performance on the pitch at centre half where he stopped every attack that Pirelli through at Chandlers Ford. Reece Middleton came on up front and David Phillips slotted in at his normal position in defence.

Jozef Montigue extended the home sides lead to three goals when he beat the offside trap and beat the keeper with a good finish to grab his hat trick early on in the second half.

Chandlers Ford snatched a fifth goal from a corner which was whipped in from the left by Reece Middleton, and after a scramble Montigue managed to get the last touch to take his goal tally to four for the game.

Pirelli fought back well with two good goals as they completed some nice passing movements with an end product to bring the score to 5-3. But Chandlers Ford sealed the game off with about 10 minutes to go when Reece Middleton beat the keeper after a great run through on goal, and with minutes to play, substitute Shaun put the game beyond any doubt when he scored CFY’s seventh of the game late on.

Chandlers Ford 2-1 Clanfield

CHANDLERS FORD 2-1 CLANFIELD

5.2.05 – LEAGUE

Clanfield started this match the brighter side, and for long periods of the game they had CFY pinned back in their own half. The visitors created a number of attacks on goal, but keeper Lee Robertson and the back three of Godfrey, Bromhead and Phillips soaked up the pressure and dealt with everything that was thrown at them.

Chandlers Ford began to find their feet towards the end of the half when they strung some good attacking moves together with Matt Lucas at the heart of it. Lucas made a great run past two players before picking out Jozef Montigue who was free in side of the penalty area on the right hand side, but Montigue’s strike was off target.

Neither side could find a break through in a very close first half between two sides that were evenly matched, despite the difference in position in the league table.

HALF TIME – CFY 0-0 Clanfield

It was Clanfield who made a good start to the second half, when they broke the deadlock minutes after the interval. CFY gave away a free kick on the right hand side by the half way line, which was taken quickly and pumped forward into the feet of the skilful Clanfield striker Leroy Rudd who neatly chipped the Chandlers Ford keeper from a tight angle from range.

The home side were then awarded a penalty when Galloway was brought down in the box. Matt Lucas stepped up and converted the penalty with a neat finish into the bottom right hand corner to grab the equaliser for Chandlers Ford.

Both sides battled away and both sides had chances to win the game, but it was CFY and top goalscorer Ronan Galloway who grabbed a dramatic winner with seconds to play. After another good move by Chandlers Ford, a great counter attack saw Galloway put through one on one with the Clanfield keeper which he coolly placed into the back of the net from distance.

Crofton Saints 4-2 Chandlers Ford

CROFTON SAINTS 4-2 CHANDLERS FORD

29.1.05 – LEAGUE

In this hotly contested top of the table clash, it was the visitors who started the brighter and created a good chance early on when Ronan Galloway’s cross from the left went past everyone in the box and there was no end product from a Chandlers Ford player. The game soon turned into the home sides favour as they were bypassing the CFY midfield at times and unleashing numerous attacks on Lee Robertson’s goal. Crofton forced their opponents into soaking up heavy, sustained pressure for large periods of the first half.

However, against the run of play Galloway ran through on goal and banged home his 61st goal of the season (including friendlies), into the roof of the net leaving the Crofton keeper no chance. But there was another twist in the tale. Chandlers Ford had only just finished celebrating going 1-0 up, when another quick break away resulted in a Crofton equaliser as the visitors were pegged back almost instantly. This meant the sides went into the break on level terms.

HALF TIME – Crofton Saints 1-1 CFY

The home side made a very lively start to the second half and within minutes the pace of the Crofton attack had caused trouble to CFY’s defence yet again, and they scored the second of the match to take the lead.

After this, the game was fairly even and at times the action was end-to-end entertaining football. But it was Crofton again who increased their lead to gain a two-goal cushion, following another attack from the right flank, which was eventually scrambled over the line.

Chandlers Ford were spurred into action following this goal, and it was Ronan Galloway who doubled his tally for the match and Chandlers Ford’s also. It was a typical sprint and cool finish from the Chandlers Ford striker. The visitors came close to gaining an equaliser, when substitute Ryan Chinn powered a shot at goal, which was only just cleared off the line from a Crofton defender.

At 3-2, CFY had a good claim for a penalty turned down as Ronan Galloway was clearly shoved to the ground inside the area. This may have changed the game around. Crofton stepped it up a gear and managed to break away and grab their fourth goal of the game just before the end to put the game beyond doubt. This ended a great game of football, between two good sides but the result now puts Crofton in the driving seat in the bid for the title.

Chandlers Ford 5-4 Lee Rangers

CHANDLERS FORD 5-4 LEE RANGERS

22.1.05 – FRIENDLY

Chandlers Ford started brightly on their home pitch against the side that are currently bottom of the ‘A’ League. The division difference between the two sides however was not noticeable for large periods of this fierce, friendly encounter.

The home side got off to a flying start after they piled on the pressure Ronan Galloway won a corner, which eventually resulted in a 1-0 lead to CFY. Defender, David Phillips was the coolest player on the pitch when he smashed the ball home from 10 yards when he reacted quickest to a poor clearance from a Rangers defender.

The hosts enjoyed large periods of possession throughout the half, and it wasn’t long before Chandlers Ford had the ball in the back of the net. This time Jozef Montigue was the finisher and Galloway the provider, as Joe tapped the ball over the line from close range.

Montigue doubled his tally towards the end of the half in similar fashion as he found himself in the right place at the right time to knock the ball past a stranded Lee Rangers keeper to send the home side into a comfortable 3-goal lead.

However this half was not over as Lee Rangers caught the CFY defence off guard on a quick breakaway which resulted in the visitors pulling a goal back just before the interval with a neat volley from inside the box.

HALF TIME – CFY 3-1 Lee Rangers

The goal before half-time seemed to spur the away side on, as they came out of the blocks very quickly in the second half and found themselves right back in the game when they scored two good goals with just 7 minutes played in the second half.

Chandlers Ford were looking nervy at times and were probably wondering how on earth they lost their two-goal cushion so quickly. Lee Rangers took the lead for the first time in the game when yet another blistering break away led to their fourth goal as the ball just crept over the line and the goal stood despite the complaints from the home sides players.

However CFY found their rhythm again and they started to pass the ball around and create problems for the Lee Rangers defence. Substitute Reece Middleton was a big threat for Chandlers Ford and he was awarded a penalty for having his shirt pulled in the box. Ryan Chinn scored a vital goal from the resulting penalty for the home side as he nestled the ball in the bottom corner, and got his side the equaliser that in the end proved to be the turning point in the game.

With about 8 minutes to go Reece Middleton made a powerful run down the left and blasted the ball into the roof of the net for Chandlers Ford’s fifth goal with a great strike.

Lee Rangers couldn’t find a reply late on as CFY ran the clock down by keeping possession.

Portchester 'A' 1-5 Chandlers Ford

PORTCHESTER ‘A’ 5-1 CHANDLERS FORD

15.1.05 – HANTS CUP SEMI-FINAL

CFY starting as underdogs from Division 2 against second placed Portchester from Division 1, made a determined start in a game that the visitors knew would be a tough game. Chandlers Ford were soon under heavy pressure early on as the Portchester side made a good move which resulted in a great save from keeper Lee Robertson who managed to tip a powerful strike over the bar to keep the scores level.

However minutes later Portchester were threatening the Chandlers Ford defenders once more as they raced into an early lead with a tap in from a corner kick. The home side doubled their lead almost instantly as they thrived on a misplaced kick and reacted quickest to fire the ball home.

Chandlers Ford managed to enjoy a brief spell of pressure but nothing that the solid Portchester side couldn’t deal with. Just before the half time interval the visitors took another blow as they conceded a free kick on the edge of the area, which was banged into the top right hand corner of the Chandlers Ford goal.

HALF TIME – Portchester 3-0 CFY

CFY came out strong in the second half as they looked the more lively and dangerous team as they strung a few good passes together and threatened the Portchester goal three times in the space of a couple of minutes. For the first time in the game Portchester were rattled and looked a nervous side as the visitors were playing the better football at the start of the second half. Twice Ronan Galloway was through one on one with the Portchester keeper but it was not to be.

Portchester managed to play their way back into the game again and they broke away down the left before nicking the ball ahead of Lee Robertson to poke the ball into the far corner of the net.

Chandlers Ford picked themselves up again and continued to battle in the middle of the park. Dale Hansford threaded a great pass through to Ronan Galloway who broke free of the last defender, before sprinting into the area and coolly slotting the ball between the Portchester keeper’s legs.

Just before the end of the game Portchester scored their fifth goal as they capitalised on the tiredness of some of the Chandlers Ford defenders.

Good luck to Portchester in the Final but well done to CFY for their battling display today and for getting all the way to the semi-final – A terrific cup run.

Portchester 'B' 1-3 Chandlers Ford

PORTCHESTER ‘B’ 1-3 CHANDLERS FORD

08.1.05 – LEAGUE

This match was played under very difficult conditions with gale force winds due to the pitch’s location by the sea. The elements were proving to be a struggle for both sides but it was Portchester who opened the scoring. Chandlers Ford started the game the brighter side; enjoying periods of pressure in the Portchester half but they failed to make their chances count as Portchester scored against the run of play early on.

A quick counter attack from the home side caught the CFY defence off guard as the Portchester striker sped away from his marker before coolly slotting the ball underneath goalkeeper Lee Robertson.

Portchester carried this lead with them into the interval at the close of a tight first half.

HALF TIME – Portchester 1-0 CFY

CFY were determined to get back in the game and they had to work hard for their equaliser. When it came it was well worth waiting for as Ronan Galloway let fly from 20 yards out and found the top corner of the net.

The visitors were uplifted after this goal and they dominated possession for a large period of time, creating countless goal scoring opportunities but like the first half there was a lack of an end product.

Portchester battled on and withheld heavy pressure from Chandlers Ford and they managed to keep the scores level right until the 6 minutes of the game where Reece Middleton made a powerful run down the left before poking the ball past the keeper. This gave Chandlers Ford a deserved lead for the way they controlled the game. Middleton grabbed his second of the game in the dying seconds with a brilliant strike from the edge of the area.
