S&D Tournament - Sat 9th June

After a long hard season battling in the B division, Chandlers Ford Youth competed in their first six a side tournament this season. With a decent track record in years gone by, they had a lot to live up to.

The red team managed by Jamie was made up with the following eight players:

Robbie Hurst (c), Afmed Sfagsi, Liam Godfrey, Dan Whitlock, Tom Pope, David Harris, Miles Hodge, Ryan Dennis.

Meanwhile, Richard took charge of the blue team which saw a welcome return to the club (even if it was just for the day!), for Matt Lucas and Ronan Galloway. The squad in full:

Michael Sawbridge, Jozef Montigue (c), Josh Harragan, Thorsten Tramischus, Matt Lucas, Michael Wall, Ryan Chinn, Ronan Galloway.

In a very tough group, the red team began the day well with a point but things went downhill from there with four straight defeats and no goal to celebrate all day. Liam Godfrey came the closest in the final match against Hiltingbury striking the bar with a powerful volley.

Fortune may have been against the reds, but Richard's blue side cruised through the group stages with some heavy wins including a marvelous 4-0 demolition to begin the day on a high. Ronan, Matt, Joe and Josh were all on the scoresheet, with Josh's free kick one of the highlights of the day.

Ronan continued to work his magic in front of goal, helped out tremendously by the talent around him who provided the assists, along with some decent goalkeeping which was shared throughout the day by Michael and Thorsten.

The quarter final draw saw Chandlers Ford up against Hiltingbury and things looked to be going to plan when Thorsten made it 1-0 early on. Into the second half and Hiltingbury had fought back to punish a lack of concentration in the CFY defence. Things could have been an awful lot worse had Michael not made a tremendous double stop from point blank range right at the end, this keeping his side in the game. Extra time was not out of the way meaning the game had to be settled by the dreaded penalties.

Ronan took the first penalty to give CFY the lead in the shootout, Hiltingbury equalised before Matt restored the lead. Once more the scores were level before Thorsten's effort was saved well. Hiltingbury scored their next penalty to win 3-2 to send the Blues out of the tournament.

All in all an enjoyable morning of football, well done to all who participated.
