CFY 7-4 Stubbington

CHANDLERS FORD 7-4 STUBBINGTON
28.10.06 – MID SOLENT B LEAGUE

Chandlers Ford picked up their first three points of the season with a good all round performance. Defensively things perhaps could have gone better, but the lethal partnership of Jozef Montigue and Michael Sawbridge proved to be more than enough to see off a Stubbington side that have not won all season.

The blues couldn’t have got off to a better start with Liam Godfrey netting after just 25 seconds as he reacted quickest to the ball bouncing off the inside of the post from a Montigue effort.

Stubbington promptly bounced back as they made the most of some sloppy defending shortly after the opening goal.

CFY were still on top and looked like scoring every time they came forward. It wasn’t long before the ball was in the back of the net once again. Michael Sawbridge swung in an inch perfect corner from the right hand side, which Jozef Montigue sprang out of nowhere to meet with a fantastic header that had power and direction.

Just like the first goal for the home side, they conceded again almost instantly to let their lead slip. The ball came across from the right and was met by a side-footed finish past Karthik Basker for the second equaliser of the game.

Despite, the set back – Chandlers Ford showed good character to get back on top. A high ball up the field was handled just outside the area by a Stubbington defender, gifting Michael Sawbridge with a chance to pick his spot from the free kick. Michael stepped up and buried it to send CFY 3-2 ahead.

Just before half time, Montigue sprinted down the right wing beating the left back before being chopped down by a dirty challenge in the penalty area. Ryan Chinn casually chipped the ball over from 12 yards, but the whistle was not blown as the referee was still getting people outside of the box. Jozef took the retake and looked for the top left hand corner but was denied by a good diving save. Like all good strikers he followed the shot in and made no mistake the second time of asking.

HALF TIME – CFY 4-2 Stubbington

Stubbington were on the back foot just as they had been for the majority of the first 35 minutes.

Montigue completed a fine hattrick by getting on the end of a good through ball. Even though, Jozef was held back by two defenders he managed to hold off the challenges with good strength planting the ball in the bottom corner.

The visitors managed to pull a goal back through a penalty kick. Karthik Basker rushed out of goal and as he did the Stubbington winger went down under the challenge. CFY may have felt the decision was a little harsh, but the goal stood and it was now 5-3.

Back at the other end Michael Sawbridge found his range as he netted another two to complete a quality treble. Having played so well throughout the game it was no more than deserved. His second saw good link up play between the two strikers result in Michael chipping the keeper from distance with a sweet strike and his third was scored in a similar fashion with another brilliant finish.

Just when Chandlers Ford were well on top at 7-3, they conceded another soft goal that was scored by the Stubbington centre back who was shoved up front to cause problems for the defence.

All in all it was fantastic to get off the mark in the league with a positive win, but as mentioned before we cannot afford to give away silly goals especially when we come to play the bigger teams. Jozef Montigue just edged man of the match for his all round display. Now for a win against Warsash next week!

CFY win the FA Cup - We Wish!!!

CFY players, Liam Godfrey, Miles Hodge, Thorsten Tramischus, Michael Sawbridge and Jozef Montigue pose with Lawrie McMenemy and the FA Cup at Eastleigh Football Club.

CFY beat Dougland

After last Thursday's training session, Chandlers Ford were challenged to a friendly game against Dougland Under 12's.

After being 3-0 down, Jozef Montigue pulled a goal back with a 'Brazilian' swerving shot into the bottom corner before half time.

In the second half more goals were exchanged between the two sides with Thorsten Tramischus adding to CFY's tally, Jozef scoring two more to complete his hattrick and Michael Sawbridge sealing a 7-6 victory with a fine hattrick, including a stunning back heel flick from the edge of the box and one straight from kick off. This was a good run out for most of the boys especially as the Saturday game against Crofton 'B' was cancelled.

Meanwhile, for the second consecutive week, our league game scheduled for this Saturday is now postponed due to East Lodge having a Hampshire Cup game. This will give the boys a chance to have a training game.

Superb 2nd Half Against League Leaders

CHANDLERS FORD 0-5 COLLEGE YOUTH B
30.09.06 – MID SOLENT B LEAGUE

Chandlers Ford started this match very brightly and were more than a match for College in the opening stages of the game. It was always going to be difficult against the top of the table side that have scored goals for fun in their first couple of games in the league already this season.

With Joshua Harragan unavailable for selection this week due to not being registered in time, CFY welcomed back David Phillips who gave his all as ever.

Michael Sawbridge came closest to scoring within the first two minutes as he got on the end of a David Phillips through ball, with David Harris also doing well in the build up play. Michael didn’t quite hit it cleanly but he certainly caused a lot of problems for the College defence as he burst past them creating an opening for the shot, which went just wide of goal.

After holding the visitors for at least ten minutes, CFY began to crack under the pressure on their goal. Former Portsmouth striker Leroy Rudd grabbed a first half hattrick including a penalty that he won in the first place. Karthik Basker ran out of goal to try and stop the College striker but Rudd managed to get the ball past Basker and as he did was brought down by the feet of the Chandlers Ford keeper.

HALF TIME – CFY 0-4 College Youth B

The second half saw a vastly improved performance from the home side as they defended superbly well with captain Robbie Hurst at the heart of it as usual along with Michael Sawbridge who dropped in at centre half to keep things tight.

Jozef Montigue worked tirelessly in the centre of the park, creating chances for Thorsten Tramischus on several occasions.

The only goal of the half came from a corner ball on the right hand side. Rudd was quickest to react and somehow squeezed the ball into the top corner with an amazing overheard kick leaving Basker standing.

Other than this College rarely looked like scoring, as the determination of the Chandlers Ford players were quite evident for all to see.

Tramischus could have grabbed a consolation as he got on the end of chipped passed from Montigue but it fell on his weaker left foot and the keeper came out well to push it wide for a corner.

In the closing stages of the game, there was yet more controversy following last weeks friendly match being abandoned. The College Youth linesman brought it to the attention of the referee that CFY’s Liam Godfrey had supposedly spat at the College keeper. This left the referee no option other than to show the red card although it has been suggested that the keeper made more of it than met the eye.

All in all, CFY can be very pleased with their excellent second half display where they showed a lot of passion and belief in themselves as they kept a very strong side very quiet for near enough the whole half and probably should have had a goal or two for themselves. The boys can take heart from this as things are getting better and it should give them the confidence to go into the next game thinking that they can get a win.
