CFY 4-3 Itchen Tyro

Chandlers Ford Youth 4-3 Itchen Tyro

Friendly – 30th August 2008

Lineup: Kelvin Bagot, James Parsonage, David Kilcoyne, Josh Harrigan (c), Jake Beattie, Michael Wall, Zak Pickett, Tom Ashton, David Bromhead, Jozef Montigue, Michael Sawbridge

Subs: Ahmed Sfagsi, Ryan Chinn

Chandlers Ford went a goal down early on as Kelvin bravely came out of goal at the edge of his area to make a challenge on the forward, but the ball came loose and was slammed home despite David Kilcoyne doing his best in covering on the goalline.

Jake Beattie grabbed a deserved equaliser as CFY picked themselves up from a poor start. The goal came from a Michael Sawbridge corner kick on the far side, which Beattie turned home with a fine volley on the turn - a great finish.

The visitors came back strongly, seemingly wanting it more than the Blues did and broke away twice more to get through the Chandlers Ford defence and take a two-goal cushion with them into the break.

Ford did create some good chances of their own just before Itchen had restored their lead with Jozef coming the closest following a superb team move.

Michael Sawbridge and Michael Wall linked up very well in attack to create the chance (Wall unselfishly playing a square ball to his left instead of going for goal himself), for Joe to force a top drawer save out of the goalkeeper to win a corner kick.

HALF TIME: CFY 1-3 Itchen

Showing a positive attitude and attacking football after the break, CFY forced their way back into the game.

Tom Ashton continued his fine form with a wonderful goal to bring his side back into contention. Making room for the shot, Tom lobbed the keeper with a perfectly measured strike from distance into the roof of the net for 2-3.

They could and should have been level when Michael Wall did all the hard work with a great run down the right of midfield before delivering an excellent cross to put the ball on a plate for Pickett. Unfortunately, Zak will not want to be reminded of the outcome as he somehow missed this golden opportunity firing over the bar when it was easier to score.

Zak did make up for this miss as he completed a fine comeback for Richard's side with the leveller soon after. Putting pressure on the goalkeeper, the new signing slid in well to win the ball in front of goal and as it trickled towards the line, an Itchen defender knocked the ball on to the post where it then crossed the line. 3-3.

With virtually the last kick of the game, Joe got himself on to the scoresheet from a Michael Sawbridge corner - his second assist, connecting well with the cross with a well-timed side footed volley to find the net and seal the win.

Ranville 7-0 CFY

Ranville Rangers 7-0 Chandlers Ford Youth

Friendly – 28
th August 2008

Lineup: Kelvin Bagot, Jozef Montigue, Jake Beattie, Ryan Chinn, Tom Ashton, Michael Wall, David Kilcoyne, Alex Evens, David Smith, Josh Harrigan ©, Zak Pickett

Subs: James Parsonage, Mo (unused)

CFY started poorly against a very strong Pompey lads league division A side. Good work down Ranville's left saw a clinical finish put the hosts 1-0 up within a minute of the start.

CFY struggled to cope with the fast, flowing football from Ranville and indeed were 2-0 down before they could even manage a chance themselves.

They did have two just before the first period of 20 minutes ended, with Ashton extremely unlucky to watch his stunning free kick come back off the cross bar.

For the second period Parsonage replaced Chinn on the right wing but everyone else stayed the same, Ranville continued to dominate and despite some good goalkeeping by Bagot they scored another two goals to close the second period at 4-0.

CFY replaced Evens with Chinn and made some positional changes for the final third period. Chinn went up front with Montigue, Pickett moved to left wing and Harrigan to centre midfield to help Ashton who was battling well and showing his class in midfield.

Good moves involving Montigue and Ashton saw Chinn come close twice, but Ranville ran away with the game scoring three more times to secure a 7-0 victory.

Despite some good performances from Bagot in the first two periods and a lively shift from Chinn in the final period. Ashton won man of the match for the second game running with his never say die attitude and continual hard work for the cause.

Most other players must look at their performances before Saturday's game against Itchen.

Man of the match – Tom Ashton.

CFY 3-1 Earls

Chandlers Ford Youth 3-1 Earls

Friendly – 21
st August 2008

Lineup: Kane Kellaway, James Parsonage, Jozef Montigue, Jake Beattie ©, Tom Ashton, Miles Hodge, Kelvin Bagot, Michael Wall, David Kilcoyne, Alex Evens, Zak Pickett

Subs: David Smith, Josh Harrigan

As you will see from above, late arrivals Smith and Harrigan had to settle for places on the bench, with Hodge starting wide right and two keepers on the pitch!!

Kelvin Bagot started off at left back.

After ten minutes, Hodge made way for Harrigan who slotted in at right back with Parsonage moving to wide right of midfield and Smith replaced Bagot at left back.

Ashton was running the show from centre midfield supported by Wall and Montigue and Pickett were looking lively up front with some good runs.

The defence looked strong with captain Beattie marshalling it well.

The game was end to end with both sides having chances, but Kellaway was looking assured in goal.

However following a corner, and CFY not closing down, Earls took a 1-0 lead into half time although Pickett was unlucky to have a goal cancelled out for having been judged to have knocked the ball out of the goalkeeper's hands before slotting it away.

HALF TIME: CFY 0-1 Earls

The second half saw Kellaway replaced in goal by Bagot and Parsonage making way for Hodge.

Other changes saw Wall move up front with Pickett slotting in alongside Ashton. The two David's also swapped positions with Smith moving to centre back and Kilcoyne to left back.

The changes and the half time team talk seemed to work with CFY now wanting it more. They were soon on level terms when Ashton slotted in following a fumble by the Earls keeper, the linesman was again flagging for an infringement on the keeper but this was correctly over-ruled.

Following good work from Ashton and Montigue, Wall fired home to put CFY 2-1 up and before the finish Tom Ashton had secured a 3-1 victory and his man of the match award with a stunning strike.

Pickett had a very good second half as did Hodge and especially Bagot in goal who kept CFY in it with three very good saves at close range.

All in all a good performance by CFY especially in the second half.

Man of the match – Tom Ashton

CFY 5 a side Tournament

Saturday 5th July 2008

Chandlers Ford Youth divided their squad into three teams of five and took them to Brighton Hill College, Basingstoke where they took part in a mini five a side tournament amongst themselves.

Each team played each other twice in fifteen minute games, with the top two teams meeting in the final.

Thanks to Miles Hodge, who won a free hour at the Power Leagie centre, for allowing us to use his prize for the benefit of the team.

One of the purposes of the exercise was for the boys to play for their places in the next six a side tournament, which will take place next Saturday morning at Stoneham Park, Stoneham Lane. With just eight slots available, the competition was high!

Below are the stats and the results, as you can see Michael Wall was on fire with an amazing return of 17 goals in just five games!

Sawbridge, Joe and Daryl in lethal form as Ford end season on a high

Chandlers Ford Youth 5-3 Ensinger

Mid Solent B Division – 19th April 2008

The final game of the league season ended with a victory for Chandlers Ford who sought revenge on Ensinger after losing out the last time they met despite being the better side in a 6-5 thriller.

Starting the game really well, CFY continued their fine form of late and looked sharp thanks to all of the match practice which has paid off.

Michael Sawbridge was in a class of his own today, there was just nothing or nobody that could stop him from controlling the game. He had the beating of the Ensinger back line every single time with his pace, quick feet, strength, and so much more. His quality was there for all to see and it was by far one of his best performances of the season.

Setting up the first goal of the game to continue the fantastic partnership that Michael has struck up with Joe, Sawbridge beat the left back before delivering the perfect cross for Montigue to slam home from close range with a powerful right foot shot into the top corner.

The one time Ensinger managed to get out of their own half was the time they forced an equaliser with their first real shot of the game. Lee Robertson was back in goal after spending months on the sideline with injury, but could do nothing about it when it came. David Bromhead perhaps might have done better in stopping the left winger from pulling the ball back from the byline, instead when it came across David Smith got his feet in a tangle and put it in his own net.

Ford did not get discouraged by any means and soon restored the lead. This time it was Daryl who provided the assist with a great ball in from the left, almost a carbon copy of the opening goal of the game with exactly the same end product - another quality finish from Montigue who took the opportunity well to find the back of the net.

Sawbridge just couldn’t do anything wrong today and had to be denied by an excellent goalline headed clearance to keep out a magnificent attempt from a corner kick, whilst the goalkeeper pulled off some good saves to keep out David Bromhead and Alex Evens to keep the scoreline respectable at the break, which in no way represented how much Ford dominated the half.

HALF TIME: CFY 2-1 Ensinger

Only a minute in, Ensinger were back in with a shout as they hit Ford instantly with their second equaliser. It came from a corner kick but it never looked like causing any problems, that is until Lee Robertson came for the ball and fumbled trying to make the catch resulting in him flapping it into his own goal.

Not so long ago had this happened, Ford would have put their heads down and gave up but we are looking a much better side now and in all honesty it was just a matter of time until they went on to make their chances count, which they did.

Michael Sawbridge was instrumental as ever creating two goals and scoring a magical strike himself to top off a wonderful performance. Montigue completed a fine hattrick with a typically good finish. Taking up a great position at the back stick, he connected well with the ball in from Michael the ball going in off the post for 3-2.

Then came the moment of inspiration from Sawbridge who took the ball forward past a couple of defenders before pulling the trigger with an unstoppable shot from all of 35 yards that flew into the top corner. It was all that he deserved and more.

Leading the line superbly, Michael continued to shine and was extremely unselfish as he could so easily have grabbed more for himself. An example of this was when he squared the ball for Winter having gone through on goal only for Daryl’s shot to be very well kept out.

Ford went 5-2 up and were cruising. A fine delivery from Sawbridge, (yes him again!) found Daryl Winter who headed home for a brilliant goal.

Conceding a third goal was disappointing but could not take the shine off of what was a highly professional display, in particular in the attacking department where Sawbridge was at his best and Montigue had a good day in front of goal with a hattrick to his name.

Ensinger’s third and final goal came direct from a free kick but it was a soft one as it crept over the line having slipped past a crowd of players in the middle.

The win should ensure we end the season in 7th place now as Lee Rangers must win all three of their remaining games to even have a chance of overtaking us. On the balance of things you might look at that table and say we have underachieved this year. Having said that, I believe we now have the quality and with a few new faces coming in next season we should be set for that winning mentality where a top three finish would certainly not be out of the question.
